LAWSON CYPRESS

Scientific name: Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 

A relatively small tree reaching 35- 40 at maturity, evergreen. Lawson Cypress is strong, light and resistant to rot making ideal for cladding. 

Timber: quite a pale timber with lovely straight grain, great for milling because it is pliable and seldom splits. When you cut this timber it has a lovely lemony/ginger  smell.

Common uses:  cladding , in Japan this timber is highly prized for the construction of temples, shrines and coffins
